Sanwo-Olu unveils 233-unit housing estate in Eti-Osa, expands Lagos home supply

The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Friday commissioned a new 233-unit housing scheme in the Abraham Adesanya area of Eti-Osa, further expanding Lagos State’s housing stock. The modern residential project comprising blocks of flats and terrace units was delivered through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) between the Lagos State Government and Urban Shelter Limited.

Sanwo-Olu said his administration’s housing policy is built on leveraging public and private investments to deliver affordable homes for low-income families. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to pursuing result-oriented programmes that reduce the housing deficit and improve living standards across the state.

The Governor noted that the newly completed 233-unit estate reflects his administration’s determination to expand access to quality housing, uplift communities, and enhance the well-being of residents.

He said “It is clear that Lagos, as the epicenter of Nigeria’s urbanization and with a rapidly growing population, needs more private sector-led solutions in housing development. Demand keeps growing faster than supply, affecting every social class. Our focus on increasing the stock of modern homes and apartments continues to intensify. Just last month, we delivered 420 units of apartments in Ajara, Badagry, and we have generated about 11,000 home units for low-, medium-, and high-income earners in the last six years.”

Sanwo-Olu explained that one of the administration’s key strategies is encouraging private-sector participation, with the State providing land as equity while partners provide financing and technical expertise. All joint venture projects, he added, are closely supervised by government technical teams to ensure high standards.

The Governor also highlighted reforms introduced to boost investor confidence, including a flexible approval process and a 40 per cent rebate on permits to keep housing prices affordable. He noted that the state has also offered tax incentives and regulatory support to encourage developers to deliver more low-cost housing in low- and middle-income communities.

In his remarks, Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, said the partnership with Urban Shelter Limited was initiated in 2019 to maximize land use and existing infrastructure within the Abraham Adesanya Housing Estate to provide more home units.

He said “I commend the private developer for its professionalism, adherence to standards, and commitment throughout the execution of this project. This administration remains focused on expanding access to decent housing across all income levels. Through ongoing and upcoming projects, reforms, and partnerships, we will continue to unlock opportunities, promote homeownership, and deliver developments that are safe, inclusive, and future-ready.”
