Sanwo-Olu urges Lagosians to collaborate with govt on fire prevention, management

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday, said that stakeholders’ commitment and collaboration with government are critical in preventing fire incidents.

The Governor said this at the Lagos International Fire Safety Conference, themed:”Stakeholders Collaboration: A panacea to incessant Fire Disasters in Lagos”.

Sanwo-Olu maintained all residents have role to play in fire disaster prevention and management which are usually due to negligence and human error.

He implored all citizens to be committed to be fire prevention advocates by raising alarm early enough when they see acts that could lead to fire incidents.

He also urged participants to collaborate with the state government to educate residents on fire safety.

The Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-governmental relations, Olugbenga Oyerinde, said the state government had been proactive in its response to fire and emergencies with the provision fire equipment to mitigate disasters.

The Director and Chief Executive Officer, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, underscored the need for public private partnership to develop a cutting edge approach to prevention of fire incidents in the state.

She highlighted all the investment the state government has made over the years in equipping the fire service and emergency agencies to prepare them for fire prevention.
