Sanwo-Olu’s wife speaks on tragic doctor’s death, implies spiritual link to recent incidents in Lagos

Wife of Lagos State Governor, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has expressed her thoughts on the tragic death of Vwaere Diaso, a medical doctor.
The incident occurred on Tuesday when an elevator at the General Hospital, Lagos Island, fell from the 10th floor with the doctor inside, resulting in her passing.
In a now viral video, the governor’s wife said that the death was like “an arrow fired into the health family.”
The news of Diaso’s death has sparked outrage on social media, with many Nigerians holding the hospital’s management accountable for negligence.
Reports indicate that the elevator had been faulty, and staff had previously raised concerns about the issue without any resolution.
Several individuals took to Twitter to voice their grief and anger, decrying the heart-wrenching scene of the incident. The doctor had only two weeks left to complete her housemanship when the tragic event happened.
During a media address on Wednesday, the governor’s wife alluded to a possible “spiritual attack” on the health sector, connecting the elevator incident to the helicopter crash that occurred on the same day in the state.
“An arrow has been fired into the health family. First of August is a day I will never forget,” she said.
“The same day a helicopter crashed, the same day a lift dropped down. How? How? How?”
In 2020, the medical guild had brought attention to the malfunctioning elevator and the lack of running water in the doctors’ quarters at the General Hospital, Lagos. They questioned whether it would take a tragedy like this for proper actions to be taken.
The incident has raised concerns about safety standards in healthcare facilities and calls for urgent measures to prevent such avoidable accidents in the future.
“The doctors’ quarters at General Hospital Lagos has 10 floors. It has a non-functional elevator and no running water. Are we going to wait till someone dies before things are done properly?” the guild wrote on Twitter.
