SDP’s Adebayo faults Tinubu over absence at peace accord signing
The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for personally skipping the signing of an electoral peace accord ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying it raises concerns about commitment to peaceful polls.
Speaking with journalists after the singing ceremony, Adebayo said as the nation’s top leader, Tinubu should have attended to demonstrate commitment and reassure stakeholders.
“President Tinubu not showing up today shows lack of commitment to peace. He’s sending a wrong signal to law enforcement that the president is not committed enough,” he added.
Adebayo urged Tinubu to explain his absence and reaffirm his commitment, dismissing claims of other national duties.
“There’s no more national security than continuity of the state,” he said, stressing credible elections.
He added that Tinubu, as a beneficiary of the system, should protect its integrity.
“Everything was made to accommodate the president and he gave word he would be there,” he said.
He described the accord as a moral duty for leaders to model proper conduct.
