The Vice Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government Area in Ekiti State, Mrs Grace Ogunleye, has regained freedom after she was abducted by suspected gunmen.

The spokesperson for the Ekiti State Police Command, Sunday Abutu, confirmed the development in a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Thursday.

Abutu disclosed that the council vice chairman was rescued unharmed through a coordinated operation involving security agencies and local vigilantes.

Ogunleye was reportedly kidnapped on Wednesday along the Ipere-Iludun Ekiti Road by unidentified assailants.

Sources said her vehicle was later discovered abandoned by the roadside, while efforts to reach her through her mobile phone proved unsuccessful.

The police spokesperson stated that operatives of the police, military and other security outfits intensified pressure on the kidnappers during the rescue operation.

He added that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Micheal Falade, had directed a comprehensive investigation to uncover those responsible for the abduction.

The incident happened weeks after gunmen attacked a Christ Apostolic Church in Eda Oniyo, Ilejemeje Local Government Area, killing a pastor and abducting several worshippers during a church programme.
