Security tightened as Lagos Assembly resumes plenary on Monday

Security around the Lagos State House of Assembly in Alausa, Ikeja is more tightened as members would be holding plenary session on Monday (Today).
It would be recalled that on January 13, 2025, over two-third of the House members removed former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa over alleged high-handedness, lateness to plenary and abuse of office. He was immediately replaced with his deputy, Rt ( Hon) Mojisola Lasbat Meranda.
Obasa while addressing his supporters at a welcome event held in the Speaker’s lodge at Ikeja GRA, said he remains the Speaker of the House, claiming his removal did not follow due process.
Reacting to Obasa’s claim, the House in a statement issued by Hon. Stephen Ogundipe on behalf of the lawmakers, said Obasa’s removal stands, saying that over two-third of the members removed him.
The lawmakers said nothing has changed, pledging their support and loyalty to Speaker Mojisola Meranda.
The House, however, warned Obasa not to heat up the polity, stating that his post-impeachment utterances were “uncalled for” and “unparliamentary”.
However, as part of effort to tighten security around the Assembly Complex, a notice issued from the acting Clerk’s office on Sunday, said staff members and legislative aides were advised to come to the complex with a means of identification.
The notice said anyone without a valid ID would be denied entry into the assembly premises.
“Regarding management directives, all staff members and legislative aides must present valid identity cards to access the House premises. Please remember that entry will be denied to anyone without a valid identity card,” the short notice read.
