Senate Appoints Uzor Kalu as Chair of South East Development Commission

The Nigerian Senate has appointed chairmen and deputy chairmen for standing committees overseeing newly established regional development commissions.
The development follows President Bola Tinubu’s recent assent to bills creating these commissions across the country.
Announcing the appointments, Senate President Godswill Akpabio named Senator Orji Uzor Kalu as Chairman and Senator Kenneth Eze as Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on the South East Development Commission.
Other key appointments include:
- North West Development Commission: Senator Babangida Hussaini (Chairman) and Senator Muntari Dandutse (Deputy Chairman).
- North Central Development Commission: Senator Titus Zam Tartenger (Chairman) and Senator Isa Jibrin (Deputy Chairman).
In addition, the Senate reshuffled leadership in some standing committees:
- Senator Abdul Ningi was moved from the Population Committee to head the Senate Committee on FERMA.
- Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan, formerly chair of the Local Content Committee, now leads the Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organisations Committee.
- Senator Garba Maidoki was appointed Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports Development.
- Senator Joel Thomas now chairs the Local Content Committee.
- Senator Victor Umeh was moved from the Diaspora Committee to chair the Senate Committee on National Population and NIMC.
