Senate presidency: APC support groups adopt Izunaso, task NWC to zone position to South East

A coalition of the APC support groups (CASG) has adopted Senator Osita Izunaso as the next Senate President and urged the National Working Committee (NWC) to zone the position to the South East.
In a formal letter addressed to the national chairman of the party, Abdullahi Adamu, the group emphasized the importance of character, experience, capacity, and competence in deciding who should be the next Senate President, and urged the party to avoid tribal or regional considerations.
The letter, signed by the leaders of the support groups, including Fulani Dele Ola, Sally William-Chinebu PHD, Prince Olumide Ogundipe, Mazi Peter Okorafor, Udeze V. Chigozie, Sulaiman Abdulmalik, and 16 others, argued that for the sake of national cohesion, peace, and inclusivity, the NWC should consider the South East for the position of the Senate President.
The letter reads: “For a smooth democratic process, there is a need for the protection of nascent democracy which is hinged on the principle of Federal Character as provided in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that recognizes and promotes inclusivity of all groups in the country into public offices.”
The group also highlighted the need for the Senate President to be committed to party, capacity for performance, and a track record of service in party administration.
They further recommended Senator Izunaso as the most suitable candidate for the position, citing his character, experience, capacity, trust, loyalty to the party, and humanitarian gesture.
Senator Izunaso is a ranking senator, the most senior senator from the South East zone in the 10th Assembly, a member of the APC merger committee, APC caucus member, national organizing secretary, and founder of the Kpakpando foundation for persons with disability which carters for the needs of persons with disabilities.
“Only recently, the South East political zone has been overheated by non-inclusivity in principal elective appointments which the NWC can redress by taking proper and judicious decision on the South East Senate Presidency,” the group added.
They urged the NWC to consider their recommendation and take a decision that reflects justice, equity, and the security challenges facing the country.
