Senator Ojudu lambasts Oyegun over defection to ADC, cites legacy of poor leadership in APC

By Kunle Sanni –

Former Presidential Adviser and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Babafemi Ojudu, has criticised former APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, over his recent defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In an open letter titled “A Time for Reflection,” Ojudu accused Oyegun of contributing to the APC’s internal failures while attempting to rebrand himself without taking responsibility for his past actions.

He described Oyegun’s move as a political reinvention, not a sincere effort to improve Nigeria’s governance. According to Ojudu, Oyegun cannot credibly join a new opposition without acknowledging his role in weakening internal democracy within the APC.

“You presided over flawed primaries. You suppressed internal democracy. You selected loyalty over merit. And now that the house you helped build is cracking, you exit without explanation, repentance, and pause,” Ojudu stated.

He cited Oyegun’s tenure as riddled with manipulation, including the dismissal of screening committee reports and handpicking candidates, referencing the 2018 APC governorship primaries in Ekiti State as a notable example.

Ojudu also criticised Oyegun’s role in the 2023 APC Presidential Screening Committee, alleging it lacked transparency and accountability.

Warning the ADC and other opposition groups, he cautioned against embracing what he called “unrepentant architects of dysfunction,” stating that such alliances would undermine the credibility of any political alternative.

He further questioned Oyegun’s frequent defections across party lines—from APP to ANPP, ACN, APC, SDP, and now ADC—describing it as a consistent pattern of political convenience.
