The Ekiti State Police Command has dismissed Sergeant Osayingbemi Temitope, the officer captured in a viral video behaving irrationally some days ago.
His dismissal followed the confirmation of drug abuse after he tested positive for illicit substances, authorities confirmed on Friday.
The development was disclosed in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, in which it was revealed that the officer was subjected to medical and psychological examinations following the incident.
According to the statement, the medical test showed that the officer tested positive for tobacco and amphetamine, while investigations also revealed that he had consumed illicit drugs before the incident.
“The officer confessed to taking illicit substances during further enquiries,” the statement added.
The command, however, noted that the psychological assessment conducted on the sergeant indicated that he was emotionally stable despite his conduct in the viral clip.
Following internal disciplinary proceedings, the police authorities found the officer culpable and subsequently approved his dismissal from the force with immediate effect.
Reacting, the Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, urged officers to uphold professionalism, discipline and integrity in the discharge of their duties.
