Several worshippers trapped as fire guts Ibadan Church

Several Worshippers were reportedly trapped as fire broke out at a Church (name withheld) in Wisdom Estate, Ibadan, Oyo State on Friday night during a vigil.

According to sources, the fire incident started about 9:30pm on Olohunda Road, Lagelu Local Government Area.

It was gathered that  some worshippers had fallen asleep in preparation for the vigil when the blaze erupted while some people had already slept off when the fire started.

Another eyewitness described the desperate situation inside the church, saying, “An elderly woman who could barely walk was still inside the church when the fire was raging.”

Confirming the incident, the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services, Akinyemi Akinyinka, noted that the cause of the fire remains unknown.

The agency responded to the scene after being alerted by a resident.

Although, efforts to ascertain the full extent of the damage and possible casualties are ongoing.
