SGF George Akume advised by wife to return to Christian faith
By Kunle Sanni –
The member representing Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Regina Akume, has advised her husband, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, to return fully to Christianity, saying his achievements were rooted in the faith.
Mrs Akume made the statement during the wedding reception of the SGF’s son on Sunday in Makurdi, Benue State.
A video of her remarks, which later circulated on social media and was shared by Idoma Television on Monday, showed her offering prayers for her husband’s long life, good health, and sound judgment.
Senator Akume, a former governor of Benue State, also marked his 72nd birthday over the weekend.
In the video, Mrs Akume cautioned her husband against abandoning Christianity, noting that his rise to prominence was through Jesus Christ and not human effort. She urged him to follow the path of Christ, stressing that success would not come from turning to any other belief.
Her comments have attracted public attention amid reports that the SGF recently married another wife. As previously reported, Senator Akume is said to have married Zaynab Ngohemba-George, a former wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
Confirming the development, the SGF’s spokesman, Yomi Odunuga, disclosed that the marriage took place more than a year ago and was not a recent event.
Zaynab was previously married to the Ooni of Ife in March 2016, but the union ended in August 2017. She later relocated abroad and has been involved in philanthropic activities.
