Shanty Town director Dimeji Ajibola passes away

Acclaimed director of Chi Chi Nworah’s Shanty Town, Dimeji Ajibola, has passed away. He died on Sunday, November 3, 2024, following a prolonged battle with an undisclosed illness, as reported by sources close to him.
His death was confirmed by his colleague, Kabat Esosa Egbon, who shared, “This morning, we lost a beloved director and a remarkable talent in Nollywood, Dimeji Ajibola. Known for his creativity and dedication, Dimeji’s contributions to the industry have left an indelible mark.
“He will be laid to rest in accordance with Muslim rites. May God grant his soul peace and comfort to those who mourn him. He will be deeply missed.”
Film industry associate Samuel Olatunji, popularly known as BigSam, also expressed his sorrow: “Dimeji Ajibola was my client and friend. It’s heartbreaking to hear this news. Rest in peace to a great guy! Sad Sunday as the director of Shanty Town passed away.”
Dimeji Ajibola was celebrated for his unique ability to blend traditional storytelling with cutting-edge digital artistry. His expertise spanned film, animation, visual effects (VFX), virtual worlds, and interactive media, distinguishing him as a creative pioneer in contemporary African cinema.
A graduate of the New York Film Academy in filmmaking and cinematography, Dimeji furthered his skills in character animation at Animation Mentor in San Francisco and visual effects at VFXLearning.
He was also the CEO and technical director of Flipsyde Studios Ltd., a company known for innovation in digital media.
