Shekarau, former Kano State governor, dumps APC, joins NNPP

Former Governor of Kano State Senator Ibrahim Shekarau has finally dumped the All Progressives Congress following intractable fallout with Governor Abubakar Ganduje to join New Nigeria People’s Party.

Shekarau challenged the Governor over control of the party leadership in Kano State and eventually went to court to challenge the outcome of state congress.

Shekarau’s faction initially won at Federal High Court when the court ruled that the right party leadership in Kano belongs to Shekarau. Many party leaders at the National level including Asiwaju Bola Tinubu intervened to resolve the problem between the two gladiators in Kano politics.

The last effort to broker peace between Ganduje and Shekarau was last weekend when Asiwaju Tinubu again intervened.

WesternPost gathered that the party leaders that were part of the negotiations into early Sunday morning felt Shekarau was making unreasonable demands.

It is therefore not surprising that Shekarau has finally found political succour in the bosom of Engr. Rabiu Kwankwaso’s new party.

The ruling party has recently been hit by the defection of its prominent members to the NNPP.

Those who have left the APC include Ganduje’s former Chief of Staff, Ali Makoda; former member representing Bebeji/Kiru Federal Constituency, Abdulmumin Jibrin; former Speaker, Kano State House of Assembly, Kabiru Alhassan Rurum; House of Representatives member for Tofa/Dawakin Tofa/Rimingado Constituency, Abdulkadir Jobe and a former aide to President Muhammadu Buhari on Legislative Affairs, Kawu Sumaila.
