Shettima attends 2026 Hajj inaugural flight ceremony in Abuja

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Sunday, attended at the 2026 Hajj flag-off inaugural flight ceremony taking place at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

The event marks the official commencement of airlift operations for Nigerian pilgrims participating in the 2026 Hajj. Shettima is expected to formally flag off the flights as part of the federal government’s preparations for the annual pilgrimage.

The development comes weeks after President Bola Tinubu ordered an immediate review of the 2026 Hajj fares, citing the continued appreciation of the naira against the U.S. dollar and its potential impact on pilgrimage costs.

Upon arrival at the airport, the Vice President was received by Usman Ododo, Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure, and the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, Ismail Abba Yusuf, among other dignitaries.
