Shettima hails APC’s national outlook as Plateau governor joins party

By Kunle Sanni –

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Tuesday said the entry of Plateau State Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang into the All Progressives Congress (APC) affirms the ruling party’s claim as a national platform open to all Nigerians committed to unity, peace, and inclusive development.

Shettima spoke at the grand reception organised for Governor Mutfwang and his supporters at the Jos Polo Field to mark their formal defection to the APC. He described the development as a reaffirmation of Nigeria’s shared destiny and said the party remains the destination for citizens who believe in a united future.

“Plateau is a reminder that what powers every nation is unity—a unity rooted not in sameness but in shared purpose,” the Vice President said.

He recalled Plateau State’s historic contributions to Nigeria’s unity, paying tribute to former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon and other prominent figures from the state who played key roles in preserving national cohesion. According to him, the sacrifices of Plateau indigenes are deeply written into Nigeria’s collective history.

The Vice President conveyed assurances from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that Governor Mutfwang would enjoy full recognition and standing within the APC, noting that good governance is an asset to any political party committed to national progress.

Shettima also commended Governor Mutfwang’s administration, describing him as a unifying leader working to reposition Plateau State from conflict towards peace and development.

He highlighted policy initiatives in peacebuilding, renewable energy for healthcare facilities, agricultural expansion, transport infrastructure, and people-focused budgeting in education, healthcare, and youth empowerment.
