Shettima mourns victims of Borno attack, assures families of justice

By Kunle Sanni –
Vice President Kashim Shettima has condoled with the government and people of Borno State following last Friday’s Boko Haram attack on Darajamal community in Bama Local Government Area, which left civilians and soldiers dead.
In a condolence message on Monday, Shettima described the incident as a profound loss to both the state and the nation, assuring that justice would be served for the victims.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, the people of Borno State, and the Nigerian military over the tragic loss of our compatriots. These deaths have left the entire nation in collective grief, but we are confident that justice will be served for the bereaved families,” he stated.
Governor Zulum had on Saturday visited the community to commiserate with families of the deceased, promising support for those affected by the renewed violence.
Shettima reiterated President Bola Tinubu’s directive to the Armed Forces to review security operations in the region, including the deployment of advanced military hardware and drones to strengthen the fight against insurgency.
He also noted that the Federal Government is considering the establishment of state police, stressing that some security challenges require specialized local units with knowledge of terrain and culture to effectively respond at the grassroots level.
The Vice President assured bereaved families and the Borno State government of continued federal support in addressing the security situation, while offering prayers for the repose of the victims’ souls.
