Shettima: Some told Tinubu I planned to kill him with campaign outfits I got him

Vice-President Kashim Shettima has disclosed that some individuals attempted to create distrust between him and President Bola Tinubu shortly after they assumed office, alleging that traditional garments he gifted Tinubu during the 2023 campaign had been spiritually manipulated.
Shettima made the revelation on Tuesday in Abuja during the public presentation of the autobiography of former military Head of State Yakubu Gowon.
Recounting events from the APC presidential campaign, the vice-president said he provided Tinubu with northern-style outfits and caps to help him connect with voters across the region.
“When we were campaigning for him to emerge as the candidate of the APC, we were going round the north. So, I got some materials and caps for him to blend with the northern crowd. It fitted him very well,” Shettima said.
“So his aides said, ‘produce more, it fitted him.’”
According to him, the situation took an unexpected turn barely three months after they were sworn into office.
“Some of my people from Borno came to him and said, ‘stop wearing those Shettima clothings. He must have charmed them. And you’re going to die. And he will become the president,’” he said.
Shettima praised Tinubu for dismissing the claims and confronting the issue directly.
