Shettima to chair NEC conference as Tinubu, 36 governors attend

By Kunle Sanni –
Vice President Kashim Shettima will chair a two-day National Economic Council (NEC) Conference on Monday, aimed at strengthening economic coordination and accelerating inclusive growth across Nigeria.
The conference, scheduled for February 9 and 10, 2026, will be held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, and is expected to attract governors of the 36 states as well as key national stakeholders.
Convened by the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, the conference has the theme “Delivering Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development: The Renewed Hope National Development Plan.” Organisers say it is expected to provide policy direction to help states align with the Federal Government’s long-term economic agenda.
Speaking ahead of the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning and Secretary of the NEC, Dr Deborah Oko Odo, said the conference would focus on addressing critical macroeconomic priorities. According to her, discussions will centre on national economic issues aimed at promoting growth and development across the country.
The summit will feature deliberations on fiscal coordination, investment mobilisation and shared development strategies between the federal and state governments.
President Bola Tinubu is expected to attend as Special Guest of Honour, while senior government officials, development partners and private-sector leaders are also billed to participate as the Federal Government continues to advance reforms under its Renewed Hope Agenda.
