Shettima visits Kaiama following attack, pledges federal support for victims

By Kunle Sanni –
Vice President Kashim Shettima on Saturday led a federal government delegation to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State to commiserate with residents of Nuku and Woro villages following a deadly terrorist attack that claimed several lives.
During the visit, the Vice President assured the affected communities that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered decisive security and humanitarian interventions to restore peace and support those impacted by the violence.

Shettima said a battalion of the Nigerian Army has already been deployed to Kaiama, stressing that security agencies are working round the clock to stabilise the area and prevent further attacks. He added that while details of security operations could not be disclosed, all necessary measures were being taken to address the situation.
He also disclosed that President Tinubu has directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with the Kwara State Emergency Management Agency, to mobilise resources to provide relief and assistance to the distressed communities.
Speaking during the condolence visit, the vice president conveyed the president’s sympathy to the government and people of Kwara State, describing the attack as tragic and deeply disturbing.
“The killings shocked Nigerians because the victims were peaceful members of their communities who were simply going about their lives,” Shettima said, adding that the federal government stands with the people of Kaiama in their moment of grief.
Earlier, Chairman of the North East Governors Forum and Governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum, extended the condolences of governors from the region to the people and government of Kwara State, offering prayers for the victims and their families.
Responding, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq commended the federal government for what he described as a swift and coordinated response to the attack. He confirmed that troops were already on the ground and that Operation Savannah Shield had been activated in the area.
