A late-night fire outbreak on Tuesday destroyed several shops at the Papa area, along Alakia Isebo Road in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The incident occurred beside the Akin-Alamu building, leaving shop owners counting losses as properties worth millions of naira were consumed by the blaze.

Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, said no life was lost.

He explained that the fire started at about 11:22 p.m. and was reported via a telephone call to the fire service.

“Our men, led by CFS Adesina Olusoji, responded swiftly. On arrival, five out of ten shops were already engulfed in flames. We managed to stop the fire from spreading further and carried out salvage operations,” Akinwande stated.

He said the timely response saved properties worth millions of naira from being destroyed in nearby shops.

The fire was traced to an electrical surge that ignited flammable materials within one of the affected shops, leading to the swift spread of the flames.
