The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade, has called for unity among residents of Oyo town and its environs, stressing that peaceful coexistence remains the community’s greatest strength despite ethnic, religious, and cultural differences.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by executive members of the Isale Oyo Parapo Progressive Movement to his Boroboro residence, Oba Owoade emphasized the importance of shared humanity and urged citizens to continue fostering peace and mutual understanding.

Describing the visit as historic, the monarch noted it signaled a turning point in the once-strained relationship between the Alaafin and the Isale Oyo community, which was previously marked by tension and division.

Oba Owoade warned against toxic narratives and scapegoating, stating that such behavior breeds conflict and hinders progress. He stressed the need for empathy, tolerance, and dialogue.

“Conflict begins where peace, tolerance, understanding, and compassion are absent. We must engage in dialogue with open minds and a willingness to listen. We may not always agree, but compromise and mutual respect are vital,” he said.

He advised residents to reject retaliation and violence, noting that it is wise to consider other viewpoints, even without accepting them. According to him, this mindset fosters understanding and builds lasting bridges within communities.

In his remarks, the President of the Isale Oyo Parapo Progressive Movement, Alhaji Chief Rahman Adekunle (Ramzat), praised the Alaafin’s wisdom and commitment to fostering unity and reconciliation.

Other executive members present included Chairman Ogundokun Musiliyu, Vice Chairman Samson Olofa, Secretary Enoch Adeniran, Assistant Secretary Odeyemi Tunde, Treasurer Alhaji Kola, Financial Secretary Oyeniran Obasanjo, Auditor Oyeleke Oluwagbemiga, Assistant Financial Secretary Sulaiman Muhammed, and PRO Busari Ismail.
