Sickle Cell NGOs get new leadership, seek govt’s intervention to eradicate disease

The Coalition of Sickle Cell Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) of Nigeria (CSCN) has called for renewed efforts at eradicating sickle cell disorder in Nigeria.
The Sickle Cell Disorder (SCD) advocates made the call at the Inauguration and Handover Ceremony of new leadership of the CSCN at the coalition’s secretariat on Thursday in Surulere.
Ms Timi Edwin, Founder/Chief Executive Officer of CrimsonBow Sickle Cell Initiative, took over the leadership of the coalition from Ms Toyin Adesola, Executive Director of Sickle Cell Advocacy And Management Initiative, who had been Chairperson of Coalition.
Speaking, Adesola, emphasised the need for an intensified engagement with policymakers to push for stronger, evidence-based sickle cell diorder policies that prioritise the needs of those living with this condition.
She called for strengthened partnership and policies aimed at improving healthcare access for sickle cell patients to help reduce their burdens during crisis.
The outgone chairperson, applauded the coalition members for their support while she served as leader of the organisation.
In her acceptance speech, the new Chairperson of the coalition, Ms Timi Edwin, said that the coalition voices must continue to be heard at the highest levels and globally.
Edwin vowed to build on past successes of public awareness campaigns, enhancing community engagement, and ensuring that every individual had access to accurate information about sickle cell disorder.
