Six APC aspirants step down to support ex-lawmaker in Ondo

Six aspirants seeking the All Progressives Congress ticket for Akoko South West Constituency I in Ondo State have withdrawn from the contest and declared support for a former lawmaker, Akogun Olugbenga Omole.
The announcement was made during a stakeholders’ meeting attended by party chiefs, community leaders, ward executives and the APC Local Government Chairman, Sunday Ajulu.
Those who stepped down are Prince Gbenga Osewa, Murphy Adamolekun Omoluabi, Dr Niyi Leramo, Gbenga Enyadunmo, Prince Adeniyi Osewa and Donald Ologbese.
The aspirants also dismantled their campaign structures, aligning fully with Omole’s ambition ahead of the 2027 election.
“Our decision is for the unity of the party and the progress of our constituency,” the group said.
“We have agreed to support Omole as a consensus candidate in the interest of victory for the APC,” they added.
The aspirants equally explained that their action followed consultations within the party and was aimed at avoiding internal division.
In his response, Omole described the development as encouraging, saying, “I appreciate this sacrifice and assure everyone of inclusive leadership.”
