Sleep eight hours daily to live beyond 90, Obasanjo tells octogenarians
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has advised octogenarians to sleep for eight hours daily, exercise regularly and adopt moderate eating habits if they hope to live beyond 90 years.
Obasanjo gave the advice on Saturday in Osogbo, Osun State, during the launch of a book organised to celebrate the 80th birthday of the Asiwaju Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta states, Alhaji Olatunde Badmus.
Represented by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, the former president described Badmus as a successful businessman and respected leader who has consistently made God a central part of his life and career. According to him, octogenarians must embrace proper rest, regular exercise and controlled eating habits to guarantee longevity beyond 90 years.
“At the age of 80, let me welcome you to this club. Let me read the rules of the club to you. Number one, your father and mother must not be alive, you must sleep for eight hours every day, you must undertake one hour of daily exercise like walking, and you must eat only twice a day. With obedience to these rules, your admission is registered and your longevity beyond 90 years is assured,” he said.
Governor Adeleke, in his remarks, described Badmus as a distinguished statesman who has made meaningful contributions at the local, national and international levels.
President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, also paid tribute to the celebrant, describing him as a deeply religious man and accomplished entrepreneur whose life should inspire younger businesspeople.
Dangote announced a donation of N100 million towards the book launch and urged Nigerians to promote unity and support national development through collective efforts rather than leaving the responsibility to political leaders alone.
Also speaking at the event, the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, commended Badmus for building a strong business reputation and encouraged Nigerians to emulate his patriotic disposition and commitment to societal development.
