Soldiers shot sporadically on Tuesday in Akure, the Ondo State capital to disperse some students who were protesting the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
Westernpost learnt that the students had taken over the Akure-Ilesa highway, thereby blocking the road with many motorists stranded in the process.
The soldiers in three buses, coming from the northern part of the country and heading to Lagos were caught in the traffic.
It was gathered that the soldiers disembarked and started shooting in all directions to disperse the students.
One of the students, Fred Adams, who spoke on the issue said that the soldiers vandalised the equipment of the protesting students.
“The Nigerian Army came here and started shooting sporadically; see all our things. See what the Nigerian Army did to us.
“The Nigerian Army that should protect us; see our equipment. We were here peacefully. We are fighting for our rights. See all our things,” he lamented.
