The Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, has called on alumni of Nigerian universities to increase their support for their alma maters, emphasizing that such efforts are essential for sustaining growth and building lasting legacies.
The monarch made the appeal on Monday at the 50th Anniversary celebration of the University of Ibadan Dental School Alumni Homecoming and Fundraising event, where he served as the Royal Father of the Day.
Oba Olaoye described the event as a remarkable celebration of history, achievement, and excellence, adding that it highlighted the importance of unity among the school’s graduates.

He urged the alumni to continue contributing to the institution’s development, noting that every donation—no matter how small—makes a meaningful difference in enhancing facilities and academic standards.
The Soun also reminded participants that Nigerian universities face increasing challenges, particularly in terms of funding, and therefore require strong alumni networks to supplement government efforts.
He commended the alumni association for organizing the anniversary and fundraising activities, stressing that their commitment would help sustain the Dental School’s reputation as a center of excellence for future generations.
