The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko chapter, has honoured the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council, Prince Leke Adegbite, for using journalism to give voice to the voiceless and draw attention to issues affecting ordinary citizens.

Adegbite received the Distinguished Leadership Award during the 80th Regular Zonal Executive Council Meeting of SSANU, South-West Zone, held at the Nelson Mandela Hall of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman of AAUA-SSANU, Comrade Tayo Ogungbeni, said the award was presented to Adegbite in recognition of his commitment, professionalism and contributions to the development of society.

Ogungbeni said Adegbite had consistently used his journalistic platform to highlight issues affecting ordinary citizens, particularly those whose concerns were often ignored or overlooked.

He said, “Prince Leke Adegbite has consistently used his platform to give voice to the voiceless and draw attention to issues that matter to the people. This award is a recognition of his commitment, professionalism and service to humanity.”

Adegbite was honoured alongside the former Attorney-General of Ondo State, Adekola Olawoye; former Ondo State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Victor Amoko; and other distinguished personalities.

Responding through journalist Adeboye Ado, who represented him at the event, Adegbite expressed appreciation to SSANU, describing the honour as a renewed call to responsibility. He pledged to continue using the power of journalism to expose wrongdoing, amplify marginalised voices and demand accountability from those entrusted with public responsibilities.

He also pledged that the NUJ would continue to promote ethical and balanced journalism while using the pen to advance justice, accountability and good governance. The award is the third recognition Adegbite has received from the institution within the past three months.
