Stand up against injustice, corruption, Akpabio charges PCC officers

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio has charged the newly appointed Commissioners of Public Complaints Commission (PCC) to stand up against systemic injustice and corruption and help to redress them.

Akpabio gave the charge on Wednesday while inaugurating the new Commissioners of the Commission at the National Assembly complex.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Abbas Tajudeen was also in attendance at the event.

Akpabio said it is expected that the current Commission would be involved in investigative actions designed to expose the sore points of the nation’s social, economic and political life.

“We expect you to identify and stand up against systemic injustice and corruption and help us redress them. This is the power of what you can do, and this is the legacy you can build.

“The National Assembly stands firmly with you. We are committed to providing the support and resources necessary for you to fulfill your mission.

“Together, we can build a Nigeria where every citizen feels valued, where justice prevails, and where the voices of our people are not just heard but amplified.

“So, as you take on this noble charge, I challenge you to rise to the occasion. Embrace your roles with passion and purpose.

“Let your tenure be marked by transformative achievements and unwavering dedication to the people you serve. Let your watchword be that famous quotation by Rev Dr Martin Luther King, Jr, that ‘injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere’,” the Senate President said.

In his remarks, Speaker Abbas Tajudeen told the new Commissioners that their role extended beyond addressing individual grievances but also involved “actively shaping an environment where fairness, accountability and good governance thrive.”

He noted that public awareness remained a significant challenge for the PCC such that many citizens are unaware of how to lodge complaints with the commission but promised that the National Assembly was determined to close the gap.

Speaker Abbas charged the Commissioners to “develop a comprehensive public outreach strategy leveraging non traditional and traditional media to raise awareness about the Commission’s work.”
