Storm wreaks havoc in Osun as Adeleke, Oyebamiji sympathise with victims

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –

A heavy downpour that struck Osogbo on Saturday night has caused widespread disruption across the city, with many residents counting their losses.

The rainstorm, which was accompanied by strong winds, damaged several homes and commercial buildings, with rooftops blown off in areas such as Testing Ground, Oke Baale, Ogo-Oluwa and parts of Gbongan Road.

The storm, which lasted for over an hour, destroyed properties worth millions of naira, with many victims still struggling to assess the extent of the damage.

Electric cables and streetlights were also affected in parts of the city, plunging some neighbourhoods into darkness.

Meanwhile, Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, described the incident as sad and unfortunate, assuring that the government would support victims and direct relevant agencies to mitigate the impact of the disaster.

“I must say that I feel deeply touched and alarmed by the incident, and my administration will, no doubt, put in place everything morally and officially possible through the Osun State Emergency Management Agency (OSEMA) to offset the losses incurred by victims in Osogbo and other affected communities,” he said.

Also, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, sympathised with residents whose properties and belongings were destroyed by the rainstorm.

Oyebamiji emphasised the need for government to be responsive to critical sectors, particularly the environment, climate and ecology, promising that an APC government would prioritise public safety.
