Sue me over claims on Bola Ige’s death, Soyinka dares Omisore

Nobel Laurette, Prof. Wole Soyinka says he is ready to appear in court over his statement on the murder of former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige.

Soyinka had in statement last week, made it clear that it may be impossible to find the killers of Chief Ige with the prime suspect holding a high position in the ruling party, with the backing of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Responding to Soyinka on Monday, Omisore urged him to ask his “cousin”, former President Olusegun Obasanjo about the death of the former justice minister.

He said he had nothing to do with Ige’s murder and had been acquitted by the court of competent jurisdiction.

The APC scribe also instructed his lawyer to write the elder statesman demanding a retraction of the comments.

Speaking however at a media interaction in Lagos titled, “Forget the past, forfeit the future: A nation seceding from humanity”, Soyinka said a man decaped a respected minister and threw the cap to thugs, noting that such an action led to other actions.

“That doesn’t mean you were responsible for the person’s death. But certain actions led to other actions,” he said.

According to him, such a person does not deserve the post of the national secretary in the ruling party

“We are talking of the party of those in charge of the governance and justice of this country. The leadership of APC and I am not talking of Buhari alone, do you have to unleash scorpions on our memory? It is not Soyinka who provided this. It’s those who were so insensitive, who rubbed that murder in our faces. I will be delighted to go to court so that we can go into details. I ask the APC leadership to have a rethink because the issue will not go away,” he added.

Human right lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, who was also at the event said he will represent Soyinka free of charge if he is eventually sued.

“If you are sued, we will represent you free of charge because you are taking on a public issue,” Falana said.

He also urged the Buhari-led administration to fish out Ige’s killers as promised.
