Sunday Igboho demands federal action as herdsmen kill farmers in Oyo

By Adejayan Gbenga –
Yoruba nation activist Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has raised the alarm over the alleged killing of three farmers by suspected Fulani herdsmen in his hometown of Igboho, Orelope Local Government Area, Oke Ogun axis of Oyo State, and demanded urgent federal intervention.
The victims, identified as Aderoju Mukaila, Olawuwo Saka, and Ojeniyi Ojebayo, were reportedly attacked by the herders after resisting the destruction of their farms by grazing cattle. They were rushed to a hospital but later died from their injuries despite medical efforts.
In a statement, Igboho called on President Bola Tinubu and the federal government to take immediate measures to curb escalating insecurity in rural communities across Oyo State and the South West. He warned that continued inaction could lead to avoidable conflicts and widespread chaos.
“On Sunday, three innocent people were killed in my town, Igboho. This is exactly what I have been warning the government about for years. Nothing has changed, and our people continue to suffer attacks while those responsible roam freely,” the statement read.
Igboho emphasised the need for the federal government and security agencies to take decisive action against rogue Fulani herders, bandits, and other non-state actors operating in rural settlements across the South West, as well as parts of Kwara and Kogi states.
He urged authorities to deploy actionable intelligence to prevent attacks and safeguard lives and property, warning that residents’ tolerance for violence is reaching its limit.
“Those affected by killings and violent attacks, along with their relatives, are now in a state of despair. The government must act before residents feel compelled to take the law into their own hands to defend themselves,” Igboho added.
