Super Eagles’ camp opens ahead of World Cup qualifier

The Super Eagles’ camp has officially opened ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin Republic.
The Nigerian team’s head coach, Eric Chelle, and his technical crew arrived earlier today in South Africa to oversee early arrangements and ensure smooth organization before full training begins tomorrow.
Some players have already reported to camp, while others are currently in transit, connecting through Johannesburg from their various bases around the world.
Nigeria will battle Lesotho on October 10, 2025, in Polokwane, South Africa, before flying to Uyo to host Benin Republic in their final qualifier four days later.
Meanwhile, Nigeria defender Felix Agu is doubtful for the Super Eagles’ upcoming qualifiers after suffering a syndesmosis ligament injury to his left ankle.
He sustained the injury during his club, Werder Bremen’s, German Bundesliga clash against FC St. Pauli—a setback that will keep him out of action for an extended period.
Agu, a left-back, was among the 23-man Super Eagles squad called up for the crucial qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin Republic, but his injury means he will miss both encounters.
Nigeria currently occupy third position in the qualifying standings with 11 points, while table-toppers Benin Republic lead with 14 points and a superior goal difference over second-placed South Africa.
