Super Eagles poised for World Cup Play-off glory, says NFF President Gusau

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has assured that six-time World Cup finalists Nigeria will give their very best to secure Africa’s slot in the Intercontinental Play-offs for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Speaking on Wednesday, Gusau expressed optimism that, beyond the nation’s indomitable spirit, the coordinated efforts of the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the NFF will ensure that the Super Eagles are fully prepared for success. Nigeria will face Gabon in the semi-final on Thursday, 13th November, and, if victorious, will meet the winner between Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of Congo in the final on Sunday, 16th November.
“Everything is being done by the NSC and the NFF to ensure nothing is left to chance. No stone will be left unturned,” Gusau said. “That same fighting spirit that saw the team rise to the occasion and score the four crucial goals against Benin Republic in the final round of qualifiers will once again propel the Super Eagles to victory.”
He confirmed that the team’s training camp will open in Rabat, Morocco, on Sunday, 9th November, adding that all invited players have been contacted and are committed to the mission ahead.
“Every necessary preparation to ensure the team’s success is being made,” the NFF president continued. “I am confident that the players are also driven by the desire of every professional footballer to feature at the FIFA World Cup finals.”
The Super Eagles will play their semi-final fixture against the Panthers of Gabon at either the 18,000-capacity El-Barid Stadium or the 22,000-capacity Prince Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex, both in Rabat.
The final of the play-offs is scheduled to take place at the Stade Prince Heritier Moulay El Hassan in Rabat.
Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that a draw will be conducted on Thursday, 30th October, to determine which of the semi-final fixtures will be held in each of the two Rabat venues.
