Super Eagles shift camp to Morocco after new FIFA directive

The Super Eagles have shifted their training camp to Morocco after a new FIFA directive forced changes to Nigeria’s pre-tournament plans for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Nigeria had originally planned to open its AFCON camp on December 10. However, FIFA has informed national associations that clubs are only required to release players from December 15. In compliance with the new rule, the Super Eagles will now begin camp on December 14, giving the technical crew limited time to prepare before the tournament begins.
The directive also compelled a change in the team’s training location. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) abandoned its initial plan to camp in Egypt and has opted for Morocco instead. As hosts of AFCON 2025, Morocco will provide the team with direct access to match facilities and reduce travel strain.
The adjustment mirrors similar disruptions facing national teams across Africa as they contend with reduced preparation time under the revised global release guidelines.
The Super Eagles, three-time African champions, remain among the favourites for the 2025 tournament. Nigeria finished as runners-up at the 2023 AFCON after a 2–1 defeat to hosts Côte d’Ivoire in the final.
