Super Eagles star slams referee over controversial Man Utd goal

Nigerian international and Fulham defender Calvin Bassey has criticised the referee for allowing Manchester United’s controversial goal to stand in their 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage on Sunday.

The Super Eagles star was left furious after United went ahead in the 58th minute through an own goal by Rodrigo Muniz, who was heavily pressured by Leny Yoro during a corner.

Bassey argued that he was unfairly impeded in the build-up to the goal, claiming Yoro pushed him and prevented him from contesting the ball.

Speaking with Sky Sports, the Super Eagles star said: “It’s the same as my one, it’s a foul. He’s pushed me and stopped me getting to the ball. When the referees look back at it, they’ll be disappointed.”

He also questioned why the incident was not properly reviewed by VAR, describing the decision as inconsistent with how similar fouls are usually judged.

“He’s got two hands on me, how much force do you need? It should be disallowed,” Bassey added, visibly frustrated with the officiating.

The result leaves Fulham with only a point, while United escaped with a draw despite the controversy surrounding their goal.
