Super Falcons to face Cameroon in pre-WAFCON friendlies

The Super Falcons will face Cameroon in two pre-WAFCON friendly matches as part of their build-up to this year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. The fixtures fall within the FIFA Women’s International Window of 24 February to 7 March 2026.

Nigeria, the defending champions and 10-time title holders, will take on the Indomitable Lionesses in Yaoundé on Saturday, 28 February, before a second encounter on Tuesday, 3 March. The matches are expected to provide crucial preparation ahead of the continental tournament.

Both sides met in a similar friendly ahead of the last edition of the competition, also staged in Morocco. On that occasion, the Falcons secured a 2-0 victory at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta.

Confirming the arrangements, NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, MON, said all necessary agreements had been finalised with Cameroon’s football governing body, FECAFOOT. He noted that the objective is to ensure the Super Falcons are fully prepared to defend their WAFCON crown and secure qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

Sanusi emphasised that the Nigeria Football Federation remains committed to providing adequate support and quality opposition to sharpen the team ahead of the tournament.

On his part, FECAFOOT General Secretary Isaac Mandong welcomed the opportunity to host Nigeria, describing the friendlies as a platform to strengthen ties between both federations.

The Confederation of African Football has scheduled the 13th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations to hold from 17 March to 3 April in Morocco.

At the end of the competition, the four semi-finalists will automatically qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. The Super Falcons claimed their 10th continental title in Morocco last summer after victories over Tunisia, Botswana, Zambia, South Africa and the host nation.
