Support fight against gender-based violence, Ambassador urges clerics

Ambassador Gabriel Aduda, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, has called on religious leaders across the country to use their platforms to combat Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and promote peace, tolerance, and respect for human rights.

Speaking at a Special Prayer Session held at Living Faith Church, Jahi, as part of activities marking the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, Aduda stressed the urgent need to end all forms of violence.

“Violence has claimed too many lives and must not be allowed to continue,” Aduda stated. “The life of every individual is sacred, and safeguarding these lives is fundamental to building a happier, more prosperous Nigeria.”

Citing Ezekiel 45:9, which advocates for the cessation of violence and oppression, Aduda highlighted the critical role of faith-based institutions in addressing societal ills. He noted that the Ministry had earlier engaged Islamic leaders and was now partnering with Christian leaders to seek divine intervention and raise awareness.

“We believe the Church and the Mosque hold a unique power to reach the hearts of abusers and inspire lasting change. This is not just a physical battle but a spiritual one. Today, we ask God to touch the hearts of abusers and transform their ways,” he said.

Aduda also urged men to adopt non-violent approaches to conflict resolution, emphasizing that violence harms not only victims but also society as a whole.

“We say no to abuse, and we encourage all men to say no to abuse. There are many peaceful ways to settle disputes without resorting to violence,” he added.

Pastor Adeniyi Alabi, Senior Pastor of Living Faith Church, Jahi, joined the call, condemning all forms of violence as inhumane. He praised the Ministry’s commitment to combating GBV and pledged the continued support of religious leaders in advancing the campaign’s goals.

“As religious leaders, it is our duty to align our teachings with the message of love and peace. Violence has no place in our communities, and we must work together to end it,” Pastor Alabi said.

As the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence continues, the Ministry reiterated its appeal to community and religious leaders to champion the message that violence is never the answer and every life matters.
