The Ondo State Police Command has launched a manhunt for three suspected armed robbers who attacked a female motorist along the Ondo–Ile-Oluji Road, assuring residents that efforts were underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Otaasan area of the highway when the hoodlums allegedly opened fire on the vehicle of a 50-year-old woman, Mrs. Adebusoye Atinuke, in an attempt to rob her.

The victim, however, escaped unhurt after reportedly driving through the attack, forcing the gunmen to abandon the operation and flee into a nearby bush without stealing any valuables.

Reacting in a statement on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said operatives swiftly responded to the distress report and immediately launched a combing operation in the area to track down the suspects.

He said, “Our operatives responded promptly to the scene and have commenced intensive combing of the surrounding area. Investigation is ongoing, while efforts have been intensified to identify, track and arrest the perpetrators.”

He added that the Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, reassured residents of the command’s determination to protect lives and property, urging members of the public not to panic but to remain vigilant.

“The command remains resolute in its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Ondo State. We urge residents to promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through our emergency channels,” the police commissioner said.

The command also advised motorists, particularly those travelling during late hours, to remain security conscious and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information to support crime prevention and enhance the safety of road users.
