Suspected kidnapper nabbed, couple rescued in Ondo
By Boye Oyeyemi –
The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper and rescued two victims during a dawn operation in the Itaogbolu community.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, in a statement obtained by WESTERN POST, said the operation followed a distress call that Mr David and his wife were abducted from their farm hut near the Ondo–Ekiti border.
He said the Commissioner of Police immediately deployed operatives from the Iju–Itaogbolu Division, the State Anti-Kidnapping Squad and community youths, who moved swiftly into the forest.
The kidnappers, according to him, abandoned the couple as officers closed in, and the victims were rescued shortly after. Mr David, who suffered machete cuts, managed to escape with his wife before help arrived.
Further tracking led operatives to a forest hut where one suspect was arrested. A Samsung Note 10, a sword and a broken bottle were recovered from the scene, and the victim identified the suspect by his physical build.
Police said the suspect has been cooperating with investigators, while efforts to arrest fleeing accomplices continue.
The Commissioner, however, commended officers and residents for their support and warned criminals in border communities that they will be arrested and made to face the law.
