SWAN hails President Tinubu on 73rd birthday

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR on his 73rd birthday.

In a statement on Saturday, SWAN President Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, through the Association’s Secretary-General, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, praised President Tinubu for his exemplary leadership and contributions to Nigeria’s development.

Highlighting the virtues of the 16th President of Africa’s most populous country, the SWAN President described him as a fearless patriot and courageous leader whose transformative impact speaks volumes.

He said, “Our dear President deserves all accolades, particularly for his unwavering commitment to youth and sports development, dating back to his tenure as Governor of Lagos State.

“I recall how Lagos used to dominate sports development, discovering numerous talents during national sporting events like the National Sports Festival (NSF). During his tenure as Governor, Lagos State-based athletes excelled in NSF and other competitions, leading to their dominance whenever Nigerian coaches and sports federations selected athletes for international events.

“Now, as President, he has already begun revolutionizing sports in the country by reinstating the National Sports Commission (NSC), a move that offers renewed hope for better days ahead.

“Furthermore, he has matched his words with action by significantly increasing the sports budget for 2025 in an unprecedented manner. This is the right step forward. With the NSC leadership ensuring judicious use of available funds, Nigerian sports will undoubtedly experience a new era of growth.”

The SWAN President prayed for wisdom and good health for President Tinubu as he leads the country, assuring him that the sporting media will continue to contribute meaningfully to the development of sports in Nigeria.
