Protesters in Osun State took to the streets of Osogbo, the state capital, to express their opposition to the recent Cybercrime Act, voicing strong concerns over what they describe as a threat to freedom of speech.
The protesters gathered earlier at Olaiya Junction before marching through Station Road and Oja Oba, eventually returning to their starting point, with a noticeable police presence along the route.
Led by the Take It Back Movement, the protesters carried placards with inscriptions such as: “We need a law that targets real criminals, not innocent Nigerians,” “Join the protest to repeal the Cybercrime Act,” “Freedom of speech is under attack in Nigeria,” and “Nigerians have the right to speak freely online.”

Speaking with journalists, the group’s coordinator, Lijofi Victor, explained that the protest was aimed at raising awareness about the potential of the Cybercrime Act to silence Nigerians.
“We are out today because of the recent Cybercrime Act. We are against it because we want our freedom of speech. Many people have been imprisoned for speaking up, which we are saying no to,” he said.
Victor also highlighted that even President Bola Tinubu had, in the past, led protests and openly criticized governments in power
