Tambuwal dismisses defection rumour, reaffirms commitment to ADC

Former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has dismissed reports that he is planning to defect from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the claims as false and baseless.
Tambuwal’s Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Prince Daniel, stated this in a statement issued by the AWT Media Office, urging the public to disregard the reports circulating on social media.
The statement said the former governor had no plans to join the ruling party and remained committed to strengthening the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
It also cautioned against interpreting photographs and video clips showing Tambuwal interacting with members of other political parties as evidence of a planned defection.
“Political civility is no proof of political realignment. Exchanging greetings or interacting with members of another party does not amount to negotiating a change of allegiance,” the statement said.
The media office described Tambuwal as a statesman with longstanding relationships across party lines, noting that such ties reflected years of public service and mutual respect.
According to the statement, Tambuwal’s focus remains on building broad cooperation and mobilising Nigerians ahead of the 2027 elections.
It added that speculation about his political allegiance should not distract from pressing national challenges, including the economy, security and governance.
