Tambuwal formally joins ADC, cites persistent internal crisis in PDP as reason

Former governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing what he described as persistent internal crises and leadership disagreements within the party.

He disclosed this in a letter dated 11 March, and addressed to his ward chairman in Tambuwal/Shinfiri Ward of Tambuwal Local Government Area. According to the lawmaker, the decision followed deep divisions that have weakened the party’s unity.

“I write to formally tender my resignation as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), effective from today,” the letter stated.

Tambuwal, a senator representing Sokoto South explained that ongoing conflicts and internal disputes at various levels of the party made it increasingly difficult for him to continue his participation and commitment as a member.

“The persistent internal crisis, leadership disagreements, and divisions within the party at various levels have made it increasingly difficult for me to continue my active participation and commitment as a member. The ongoing conflicts have, unfortunately, weakened the unity and direction that once defined the party,” he wrote.

Political sources confirmed that shortly after his resignation, Tambuwal aligned himself with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a significant political shift in Sokoto State’s political landscape ahead of future electoral activities.

The senator, who currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Housing and Urban Development, requested that his resignation be accepted as his formal notice of exit from the PDP.

Tambuwal is a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, having previously served as Speaker of the House of Representatives between 2011 and 2015 and governor of Sokoto State before moving to the Senate.
