Tanzanian club clears Super Eagles goalie Amas Obasogie of match-fixing

Tanzanian club, Singida Black Stars SC, has cleared Nigerian goalkeeper, Amas Obasogie, of match-fixing allegations following an internal investigation, the club announced on Friday.
In an official statement signed by the club’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Jonathan Kassano, the management disclosed that concerns had earlier been raised by fans, stakeholders and club officials over a series of mistakes in recent matches involving the goalkeeper.
The matches in question included Singida’s clash against Flambeau du Centre in the CAF Confederation Cup, as well as league fixtures against Pamba Jiji FC and Namungo FC in the NBC Premier League.
According to the statement, the club’s management, through its disciplinary committee, initiated a preliminary investigation into reports suggesting suspicious performances by the former Bendel Insurance goalkeeper.
However, after reviewing the incidents, considering the player’s defence and receiving clarification from the club’s general manager, the investigation found no evidence linking Obasogie to match-fixing.
“The incidents that raised concerns have been determined to be technical errors within the game,” the club stated.
Despite being cleared of wrongdoing, Obasogie reportedly apologised for the situations that led to the suspicions and pledged to work on the shortcomings identified in his performances to regain the confidence of supporters and stakeholders.
Following the outcome of the investigation, Singida Black Stars announced that it had reversed its earlier decision to suspend the goalkeeper for three months. The club confirmed that Obasogie has now been reinstated and is free to continue his duties with the team.
