Task force nabs 60 Okada for flouting ban, as Lagos govt commends compliance

About 60 commercial motorcycles, popularly known as Okada were seized on Wednesday in and around Adeniyi Jones, Oshodi Expressway and Allen Avenue in Lagos, following a ban placed on their operation in six local governments in the state.
The state task force, which combed through the areas to enforce the ban announced by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, effective June 1, made the arrest.
WesternPost observed that there was total compliance in some highways in the Ikeja axis, one of the local governments affected by the ban, as many Lagosians looked for alternatives.
Also on the Lagos Island, there were no commercial motorcyclists on the highway except dispatch riders who were not affected by the ban. In Lekki axis, the same scenario was observed.
Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotosho, in a statement on Wednesday commended Lagosians for the remarkable cooperation on the ban.
He said: “The Lagos State government wishes to put on record the remarkable cooperation of Lagosians on the commercial motorcycles ban, which took effect today in six local governments.
“The compliance was significant in Surulere, Apapa, Eti-Osa, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland and Ikeja. It is the first phase of the ban, which was announced on May 18 by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, following security and safety concerns.”
