Tax Reform Bills: Tinubu’s administration will devolve more resources to States, LGs- Information Minister

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, says the President Bola Tinubu’s administration is committed to implementing a bold fiscal reforms aimed at empowering State and Local Governments.
Idris said this on Saturday at a national discourse on tax reform bills organized by the Kaduna chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).
Speaking on the theme, “Tax Reforms: The Role of Public Relations in Fostering Constructive Dialogue for National Economic Renaissance,” Idris emphasized the importance of restructuring Nigeria’s tax system as part of broader macroeconomic reforms.
The minister also described the reform agenda as essential for setting the country on a sustainable growth trajectory, addressing flaws in the existing tax system, and fostering trust between citizens and the government.
Idris noted that the Tinubu administration is committed to true federalism, highlighting that the reforms aim to devolve more resources to subnational governments and, ultimately, to the Nigerian people.
“As President Bola Ahmed Tinubu continues to implement an ambitious fiscal reform agenda, citizen engagement will become ever more critical,” he stated.
The Minister praised the ongoing public discourse on the tax reform bills, citing it as evidence of Nigeria’s vibrant democracy.
He assured stakeholders that the government is open to collaboration and dialogue to address concerns surrounding the proposed changes.
Idris also called for the support of public relations professionals to help bridge the trust gap between the government and citizens.
“By facilitating purposeful communication and building mutual understanding, public relations practitioners can create a culture of collaboration and progress,” he said.
He further emphasized that the reforms are designed to ensure that all Nigerians reap the social and economic benefits of the sacrifices being made.
Idris reaffirmed that the administration remains committed to participatory democracy and will uphold the principles of transparency and accountability.
