Taxi drivers stab policeman to death in Ibadan after killing colleague

By Bode Akinbode, Ibadan
A policeman identified as Tunde, fondly called ‘Oloyo’, attached to the Oríta Divisional Police Station, Ibadan, was on Friday stabbed to death by taxi drivers for allegedly killing their colleague.
It was gathered that an argument ensued after Oloyo requested money from a cab-driver who drove passengers to New-garage area of the city, where the policeman sometimes alternate with his colleagues.
The refusal of the cab-driver to grant Oloyo’s request, it was learnt, led to an argument.
During the altercation, the police officer allegedly beat the cab-driver on his chest, leading to his sudden death right inside the cab.
Miffed by the development, fellow taxi drivers who angrily stormed the scene pounced on the policeman and stabbed him to death.
Policemen from the Orita Divisional Police Station were said to have swiftly conveyed Tunde’s body to the mortuary, while the cab-driver’s body was covered with a white cloth by the roadside.
Efforts to get the reactions of the state Police Command’s Spokesman, Adewale Osifeso, proved abortive as at the time of filing this report.
