TDF commends Tinubu’s administration for educational reforms
The Democratic Front (TDF) has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for successfully reintegrating over four million out-of-school children into Nigeria’s formal education system within its first year in office.
TDF Chairman Danjuma Muhammad and Secretary Chief Wale Adedayo highlighted this achievement in a recent statement, noting its importance in addressing global concerns over the high number of out-of-school children and its impact on Nigeria’s socioeconomic development.
Nigeria currently has over 20 million children out of school, one of the highest figures in Sub-Saharan Africa. The Tinubu administration’s efforts to bring over four million children, aged six to eighteen, back into the educational fold represent a significant step towards tackling this issue. This initiative not only reduces the number of out-of-school children but also helps mitigate the risks associated with this educational crisis, potentially transforming Nigeria’s education landscape.
TDF commended the administration’s comprehensive approach to improving Nigeria’s educational system, including impactful measures such as disbursing N3 billion in education loans to students. Other initiatives over the past year include enhancing learning conditions through the Universal Basic Education (UBE) program, upgrading facilities in tertiary institutions with 6,500 new laboratories, faculty buildings, and auditoriums through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (Tetfund), installing CCTV cameras in schools, and establishing Rapid Response Teams to improve security.
The Minister of Education, Prof. Maman Tahir, reported a substantial increase in school enrollment, with numbers rising from 30 million in 2023 to 55 million in 2024. Additionally, the administration has trained 85,662 teaching and non-teaching staff for junior and senior secondary schools nationwide, demonstrating its commitment to raising educational standards.
TDF also lauded President Tinubu’s decision to exempt universities from the Treasury Single Account (TSA) and his commitment to subsidizing electricity costs for university campuses. Moreover, the recent approval to convert several Federal Medical Centres into University Teaching Hospitals was highlighted as a vital move to enhance the training of medical professionals and allied health workers, advancing both education and healthcare in the country.
The TDF called on the Federal Ministry of Education and its agencies to intensify efforts to fully realize President Tinubu’s vision for transforming Nigeria’s education sector during his administration’s tenure.
