Tension in Osun as Imole Council, APC trade blame over Ikire killing

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
Unease has gripped Ikire in Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State following the reported killing of Eluyera Kayode, son of the Irewole ACCORD Party Women Leader, in an attack allegedly carried out near Onireke Mosque by suspected All Progressives Congress (APC) thugs.
The allegation was raised by the Imole Campaign Council (TICC), which called on the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies to immediately commence a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the killing and ensure that all those involved, directly or indirectly, are brought to justice regardless of political affiliation.
The spokesperson of the council, Pelumi Olajengbesi, Esq., in a statement made available to newsmen in Osogbo, alleged that the attack was carried out by suspected APC thugs reportedly led by individuals identified as Ojuyobo and Asiri Eniba.
Olajengbesi further alleged that the killing followed earlier security alerts and complaints lodged at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Ikire and the Office of the Area Commander over alleged cases of kidnapping, abduction, intimidation, harassment and coordinated attacks against members of the ACCORD Party in Irewole Local Government Area.
The council stressed that political disagreement must not degenerate into violence or bloodshed, adding that continued silence, apparent indifference and slow institutional response by security agencies in the face of repeated reports of politically motivated violence were raising serious legal, moral and security concerns among residents, political stakeholders and the wider public.
Reacting, the Co-chairman (Print), Media and Publicity Committee of the AMBO Governorship Election Campaign Council, Kola Olabisi, dismissed the allegations linking APC members to the killing as false and politically motivated, accusing the Adeleke campaign committee of attempting to mislead the public.
Olabisi urged the ACCORD Party to avoid politicising the incident and allow security agencies to carry out their investigation without interference.
He added, “Our governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), is a perfect gentleman who cannot hurt a fly and who does not even have desperation in his political dictionary.”
